Rule of the tool itself (derived from the sources above, not a platform sentence)What to do first
- Type the name and address as printed on two of your documents, and the name on your account, into the Reader above. It compares them.
- Fix what differs before you upload anything. A document that differs from the account is a common reason for a second request (practice; the platform decides).
What not to do
- If your name changed and the document does not match, PayPal says it may ask for more documentation showing the name change. (point P18)
Questions
Do my documents have to match my account?
PayPal says a document must match the information on your PayPal account. Stripe says the information in the documents must match the information on your Stripe account.
How recent must the proof of address be?
Stripe says within the past six months. PayPal's US page says within the last 12 months. Other countries can differ: check your own platform page.
Does the Reader look at my files?
No. You type the text. No file is opened or uploaded, and nothing you type is stored.
Is comparing two documents with each other a platform rule?
Not in those words. It is a helper of this tool, derived from what PayPal and Stripe say about documents matching the account.
What about Etsy?
The Etsy pages we read ask for a recent bank document with the full account details. They do not say in these words that every document must match the account.
