Not confirmed

We could not confirm these on the platform's own pages, so we do not state them as fact.

  • Any maximum duration for an account hold or for a Shopify Payments review: none is stated on the pages read.
  • Shopify Payments Terms of Service (US): the page loaded only in Dutch for this location, so no clause from it is used. Termination and funds-after-closure rules are therefore not confirmed.
  • What happens to the balance when Shopify Payments is deactivated or closed: not stated on the pages read.
  • Contents of the appeal page for store termination and for reapplying: not opened.
  • A formal complaints address or an ombudsman for Shopify Payments: none found; regulators list left empty. Payments are processed by payment processors (Stripe, PayPal or Adyen by region), whose own complaint routes are on their pages.
  • Shopify social-media support: no official page read lists one.
  • Phone or email support for stores that are not on Plus or Retail plans: stated as unavailable; Shopify says it makes no outbound calls.
  • Chat contents and Merchant Alerts are behind login and were not opened.
Good to know before a hold happens
  • Describe products accurately, set realistic delivery times, fulfil on time, make subscription terms clear and respond quickly to disputes: Shopify lists these as good-standing practices.
  • Watch the signals Shopify names for reserves: long billing cycles, elevated chargebacks, higher refund rate, long delivery times and sharp volume surges.
  • Keep the store owner email address current; staff members cannot see Shopify Payments account details.
  • Avoid changing the payout bank account right before you need the money; a new external account pauses payouts for 3 to 5 business days.
  • Check emails for phishing before clicking links; Shopify points to its phishing guidance.
